Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to have a special home charger to be on this plan?
No, you don’t need to have installed a level 2 charger to be on Free EV Miles. In fact, if you have a level 1 charger, this is a great plan for you because of the length of time you can take advantage of free charging, since level 1 chargers take longer to fully charge an EV battery.
  • Does this plan come with renewable energy?
Yes, you get 100% renewable energy on this plan.
  • How do I connect my EV to get the discount?

Near your plan start date, you’ll receive an email from us with steps for connecting your EV account:

    • Use the link in your email to visit our secure 3rd party platform, powered by ev.energy.
    • Enter your name and email address and select your EV manufacturer.
    • Sign in to your EV manufacturer account. (If you don’t have an account with the manufacturer, you can create one on the manufacturer’s website.)
    • Grant access to your EV charging data. (We’ll only collect data relevant to your vehicle and charging times: the make and model, the year, your VIN #, EV battery level, charging status, home charging location and when you start and stop charging at home so we can give you the credit each month.)
    • You’ll receive a confirmation email from ev.energy that you’ve successfully connected, and that’s it! You’ll start seeing your charging credits accumulating on your bill and in MyAccount.
  • How does the Free EV Miles Credit work?
Any electricity you use for charging your EV between 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. is free, including TDU delivery fees. For bills with usage in the discounted time periods, you’ll see a Free EV Charging Credit on your bill. The discount will apply only to usage in the discounted time periods.
  • How is EV home charging calculated?
EV Home Charging is calculated by analyzing your electric vehicle’s charging sessions and calculating the associated kWh based on the size of the vehicle’s battery, the increased state of charge of the battery and location of the charging session (must be at the service address associated with your plan).
  • How long will it take to see my Free EV Miles Credit?
Your credit’s applied to a calendar month (rather than your meter read cycle) and in arrears. Here’s a helpful example: Any EV charging you do at home from January 1 through January 31 is applied to your February bill as January Free EV Charging Credits. If you switch to another provider, switch plans with us or if your term is up, we’ll use the previous 3 months of Free EV Charging Credits to give you an averaged, prorated Free EV Charging Credit on your last bill.
  • Is all my energy free during EV Free Charging Hours?
No, only the electricity you use to charge your EV during that period is discounted, but you’ll have a price-protected rate for the rest of the electricity you use at home.
  • What EV models are supported with this plan?
Rolling Energy Resources connects to more than 90% of EVs on the road. Click here to see the chart for specific makes and models.
  • When does my discount apply on this plan?
You’ll enjoy 100% free energy charges every day of the week between the hours of 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.

1 This plan provides a 100% discount off of Energy Charges and TDU Delivery Charges for electric vehicle (EV) charging that occurs at the Service Address between the hours of 10:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. every day of the week. Any EV charging that occurs at the Service Address outside the hours of 10:00 p.m. and 1:00 p.m. will be billed the full per kWh Energy Charge and TDU Delivery Charge. The discount for charging your EV is determined using your EV’s telematics data. To receive the discount, you must enroll your EV on our telematics connection platform and authorize TXU Energy to access your EV’s telematics data. If you do not enroll your EV on our telematics connection platform, you will not receive a discount for charging your EV.

2 TXU Energy will not share your telematics data and will use it only to determine your EV charging discount. After enrolling your EV on our telematics connection platform, you may withdraw your authorization for TXU to access your telematics data at any time; however, if you do so you will no longer be eligible to receive a discount for charging your EV.
